Job Description

Position Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and customer-focused Administrative Accounting Clerk to join our team in a frontline support capacity. This entry-level role is responsible for processing daily financial transactions, responding to public inquiries, and performing a variety of administrative and clerical duties. The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to learn and navigate multiple systems quickly.

Key Responsibilities

Cashiering Duties:

  • Process payments over the counter and online, including business license taxes, refuse fees, and utility user taxes
  • Handle check and credit card transactions (minimal cash handling – under $100)
  • Complete approximately 20–40 transactions daily with accuracy and efficiency

Customer Service & Phone Support:

  • Answer incoming calls and provide information regarding billing, taxes, and other service inquiries
  • Assist citizens with permit applications and other front desk services

Clerical & Administrative Support:

  • Perform data entry and maintain accurate financial records
  • Reconcile ledgers and verify payment information
  • File documents and assist with record-keeping
  • Provide general office support to ensure smooth departmental operations

Preferred Qualifications & Experience

  • Prior experience in a city, county, or other government agency setting is a plus
  • Familiarity with cashiering and financial systems such as: Tyler Cashiering, Tyler Munis or Rams Waste System
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel (basic navigation and data entry)
  • Ability to learn and adapt to multiple software platforms quickly
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, customer-facing environment

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 1+ years of general administrative, accounting, clerical, or customer service experience preferred
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently with minimal supervision
