Job Summary
The position of Athletic Trainer will work under the direction of the Assistant AD-Sports Medicine and Performance, and the Head Athletic Trainer to provide recognition, prevention, and rehabilitation of injuries with primary responsibility to oversee the care of Hillsdale College’s track and cross-country programs. The position of Athletic Trainer is a 12-month salaried position and will include, in conjunction with the rest of the athletic training staff, coverage of the college’s club sports events, sports camps, and events for Hillsdale Academy, an on-campus K-12 school.
Essential Job Functions
• Provide comprehensive medical services to Hillsdale College athletic programs
• Responsible for practice coverage, game coverage, and athletic training room services
• Will be primary support for Hillsdale College’s track and cross-country programs
• Specific major responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Assist student-athletes with referrals for appropriate medical care.
• Assist the Head Athletic Trainer in confirming that all student-athletes have acceptable medical insurance as outlined by the school’s medical insurance policies.
• Assist with the development and implementation of emergency action plans.
• Assist with the organization and administration of physical examinations.
• Maintain up-to-date medical records for all student-athletes with the use of SportsWare.
• Maintain an organized system of tracking supply inventory to assist the Head Athletic Trainer with purchasing of supplies as needed.
• Willingness to travel and perform evening and weekend work are also required, sometimes on short notice.
• Other duties as assigned by Assistant AD-Sports Medicine and Performance and/or Director of Athletics
• Bachelor’s degree
• NATA BOC Certification, and must be licensed or eligible for licensing in the state of Michigan
• Current CPR and AED certification required within 1 month of appointment
• Master’s level degree in athletic training or related field preferred.
• Two years of experience in athletic training related field preferred.
Other Skills
• Knowledge of NCAA rules & regulations.
• Knowledge of technique, strategy, and certifications.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and to express ideas effectively orally and in writing. Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Knowledge and/or willingness to learn inventory and insurance processing.
• Additional certifications or interest in attaining additional certifications in athletic performance or therapeutic modalities is preferred.
1. Average physical strength is required.
2. Must be able to ambulate, step, climb, stoop, bend, twist, and carry heavy or move objects over uneven terrain.
3. Must be able to demonstrate movements in which athletes are being trained.
4. Must be able to communicate with Hillsdale College colleagues, athletes, prospective athletes, donors, and other constituents orally and in writing.
5. Must be able to safely lift or otherwise move up to 50 pounds of equipment regularly.
6. Frequently works in outdoor weather conditions.
