Job Description
One of the nation's largest nonprofit housing and homeless services providers is seeking a Director of Budgets to join their growing finance team. This role offers a unique opportunity to directly influence the financial strategy behind critical NYC programs, including DHS-funded initiatives, while leading a team of budget professionals.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the annual operating budget process, including consolidation of site- and program-level budgets across the portfolio.
- Oversee programmatic, grant, and contract budgets, with a primary focus on NYC DHS programs and other government-funded initiatives.
- Serve as a key financial liaison to NYC DHS, HRA, and other city, state, and federal funding agencies, managing budget modifications, rate adjustments, and compliance inquiries.
- Provide financial guidance and training to program managers and department heads on budget preparation, tracking, and forecasting.
- Supervise and mentor a high-performing finance team, including the Budget Manager and Senior Budget Analyst.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
- 7+ years of nonprofit finance experience, with direct exposure to NYC DHS or other city government contracts.
- Expertise in budget development, forecasting, and financial reporting for complex, multi-site organizations.
- Proven leadership experience, including managing and developing financial teams.
- Advanced Excel skills and strong financial modeling capabilities.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to translate financial data into actionable insights for non-financial stakeholders.
