Job Description

Specific Gravity Group, Inc. (SpecGravity) works exclusively with multiunit hospitality and retail brands globally.

We focus on providing fully managed technology operations and support for emerging brands without an IT department, and a co-managed option for brands with a small or single person IT department in need of extra support. SpecGravity works with Hospitality and Retail brands of all sizes, typically with a 30 location minimum with no maximum number of locations. SpecGravity has proven experience tackling complex NSO (New Store Opening), Rollouts, Field Support, Cybersecurity, and General IT Support nationally.

*This role is onsite as needed to install and configure the initial systems, then remote to troubleshoot as needed. The typical support help required is 1-2 hours of work, through new projects and builds can take longer. Mostly these will be scheduled, although at times a quicker turn around might be requested. The role provides opportunity to work on larger projects as they come in. Candidate should be able to fully architect, configure, and troubleshoot Crestron AV and Lighting (ZUM) systems from the ground up.*

We are looking for a flexible individual that is current working as the primary Crestron AV / Lighting resource for a Brand, handling all aspects of the AV infrastructure* 

We're looking for a Contract / Part Time / As Needed individual to join the team as an On-Call AV Solutions Architect / Engineer, with a specific concentration on Crestron Audio Visual and Lighting Systems Administration and Management. This is the perfect role for someone with a background in these AV technologies (Crestron, AV, etc.), currently employed elsewhere, but has time to work extra hours as needed, looking to work freely and collaboratively with a team and client.

With clients across the US, and rapidly scaling and growing, this positions responsibilities can vary.

Areas where Support Can be needed:

System Management & Maintenance

  • Monitor and maintain the health of all Crestron AV systems (touch panels, controllers, DM switches, etc.)
  • Perform preventative maintenance and system checks on a regular basis
  • Ensure firmware and software are updated across devices

Troubleshooting & Support

  • Respond to urgent AV issues on-call, providing fast and effective troubleshooting
  • Diagnose and resolve hardware/software malfunctions or configuration issues
  • Interface with users or stakeholders to ensure issues are fully resolved

System Configuration & Programming

  • Adjust or reprogram Crestron systems as needed (via SIMPL, SIMPL+, VT Pro-e, or Crestron Studio/Designer)
  • Make updates to control system logic, UI changes on touchpanels, and macro routines
  • Implement integration with third-party systems (Zoom, Teams, lighting, Sonos, HVAC, etc.)

Installation & Upgrades

  • Support the setup and configuration of new Crestron devices or upgrades
  • Test and validate system functionality post-installation or after upgrades
  • Recommend hardware/software improvements or replacements

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate documentation of system architecture, wiring diagrams, programming changes, and service records
  • Provide reports or summaries of service calls and issue resolution

Collaboration & Communication

  • Coordinate with IT, facilities, and vendors for complex installations or system changes
  • Train users or staff on Crestron system usage when needed
  • Provide expert consultation on AV design or system planning

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven experience with Crestron control systems (certifications like Crestron DMC-D, DMC-E, or equivalent a plus)
  • Proficient in Crestron programming and AV signal flow
  • Proficient in Crestron ZUM programming
  • Experience with AV over IP, digital media, video conferencing integration
  • Ability to work independently and handle time-sensitive issues on short notice

Requirements:

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with Crestron AV systems , including installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting
  • Proficiency with Crestron programming tools: SIMPL, SIMPL+, VT Pro-e, Crestron Studio, or Crestron Home
  • Solid understanding of AV signal flow (analog and digital), HDMI , HDBaseT , DM , and AV over IP
  • Familiarity with networking principles , including IP addressing, VLANs, PoE, and switch configuration for AV
  • Experience integrating AV systems with video conferencing platforms (Zoom Rooms, Microsoft Teams, etc.)
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve hardware, firmware, and software issues in a timely manner

Certifications (preferred but not required)

  • Crestron Certifications: DMC-D, DMC-E, DMC-T, or CTI-P101
  • AVIXA CTS , CTS-I, or CTS-D certification
  • Network-related certifications (e.g., CompTIA Network+, Cisco CCNA) are a plus

Tools & Equipment

  • Comfortable using test equipment: multimeters, signal generators, network testers, etc.
  • Must have access to a laptop with Crestron Toolbox and required software (or be willing to use company-provided gear)

Soft Skills & Availability

  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to work under pressure
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Able to take initiative and work independently with minimal supervision
  • Comfortable working on-call, as needed — including evenings or weekends when issues arise
  • Professional, reliable, and discreet when working in client-facing environments

Other Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation (if on-site work is required)
  • Ability to lift/move equipment (up to ~50 lbs), climb ladders, and access AV infrastructure (rack work, ceilings, etc.)
  • Eligible to work in the U.S. and pass any necessary background checks (especially for corporate or government environments)
