FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Director of Health Benefits is responsible for planning, designing, and implementing comprehensive health benefit plans, including researching industry/ best practices for GPC’s North American operations serving 35,000 employees. This leader oversees existing plans and policies while monitoring provider performance and third-party relationships. He / she ensures programs support the organization’s strategic objectives, are competitive, cost-effective, and in compliance with legal requirements.

Specific functions and responsibilities of the position include:

  • Leads delivery and execution of high-quality/comprehensive health benefit programs within North America
  • Responsible for request for proposal and audit projects, including evaluation, service and cost negotiation and selection process in conjunction with external consultants
  • Leads benefits annual enrollment process including implementation of new benefit plans and program or changes with vendors
  • Provides guidance for escalated compliance and administration questions from the Employee Service Center management team
  • Responsible for ensuring that health plans comply with federal, state, local and provincial laws and regulations, and that processes and controls are in place to ensure ongoing compliance
  • Possesses a strong understanding of industry trends and market practice to assess competitiveness of benefit plans and programs
  • Educates the HR community on benefit initiatives by developing and leading informational webinars
  • Lead the development of employee communications related to benefit plans including print and electronic media

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate possesses 10+ years of broad and progressive experience designing and managing employee benefits, with a minimum of 5 years in a leadership role. We seek a leader that has led an operation of at least 10,000 people with a demonstrated track record of innovating and evolving benefit plan design and administration. Finally, this subject matter expert should bring a knowledge of state-of-the-art thinking and practices in benefits design and administration with a deep understanding of the market dynamics and new developments. Experience with Workday desired.

Additional qualifications include:

  • Strong analytical and project management skills, proven ability to design clear processes, and a very detail-oriented yet flexible approach to problem solving
  • Strong technical skills - ability to navigate through various software programs, including Microsoft Office products, specifically PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and other HR systems
  • Experience in, and passion for driving initiatives that foster a diverse and inclusive environment
  • Ability to achieve goals through influencing, partnering and developing productive relationships with senior leadership and line managers across the business

EDUCATION

Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or related field, required
