Title: Director of Data Science

Logistics: Hybrid - 2x per week onsite in San Francisco

We are seeking a Director of Data Science to lead and expand our growing team. This role will be responsible for doubling the team from four to eight members over the next year, managing performance, engaging with key stakeholders, and driving the technical direction of the team. The ideal candidate has a deep background in data science, AI, and machine learning, along with proven leadership and hiring experience.

Our client is a Series-C startup with about 700 employees and is a travel platform.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee team performance, ensuring effective planning, prioritization, and progress tracking through OKRs.
• Lead hiring efforts to scale the data science team while ensuring alignment with business objectives.
• Conduct regular 1:1s, brainstorming sessions, and team meetings to maintain momentum and foster innovation.
• Collaborate with key stakeholders, including the product and sales teams, to drive strategy with a focus on lead scoring and optimization .

Preferred Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in data science, including 4-5 years in a management role.
• Hands-on data science expertise with a proven track record of leading teams.
• Strong background in hiring, project planning, and prioritization.
• Ability to manage both data scientists and potentially a larger analytics team of up to 15 people.
• Able to code in Python and experience with standard libraries and frameworks.
• Experience working with lead scoring or pricing models .
• Ability to contribute to projects directly, though this will not be the primary focus.

Industry Background

• Experience in the travel industry is a plus but not required.
