Job Description

Tommy’s Express is looking for a Director of Franchise Development to work on-site in Holland, MI and lead the Franchise Development department in finding the right franchise partners for the brand. This position will lead the targeting and recruiting of potential franchise partner prospects, pre-qualifying leads to evaluate fit, and converting into profitable franchise partners. The Director of Franchise Development will develop effective strategies to pursue every opportunity in optimizing the Tommy’s Express presence with potential franchise business owners and guiding them through the journey of joining the brand. The role will ultimately be responsible for leading a team truly seeking the highest caliber franchise prospects for the correct opportunities, focusing on having the best (not biggest) franchise partner base, while setting very transparent expectations and flawless on-boarding setting new franchise partners up for success. Position Responsibilities:

  • Lead and oversee all aspects of franchise recruiting and onboarding, managing a team designing/implementing processes and structure
  • Develop and manage strategies to target franchise prospects fitting with and supplementing the growth of current Tommy’s Express franchise partners
  • Oversee franchise recruitment process for effectiveness
  • Prepare annual marketing budget by medium type and analyze results to finetune approach throughout the year
  • Lead planning of the annual tradeshow calendar and attendee plan with attendance preferred at majority
  • Define and analyze the lead funnel driving more applicants in conjunction with a more thorough and selective screening process resulting in a high caliber new franchise partners
  • Assess quality of leads from multiple sources based on financial qualifications, business background & acumen, knowledge of use & brand, buy-in on franchise model and overall fit & alignment with brand
  • Oversee and manage on-site HQ Discovery Day including agenda and content presented
  • Build rapport and trust with potential franchise partners, understanding their concerns while providing maximum support and transparent communication
  • Develop strong legal & franchise document understanding – ability to confidently address wide variety of questions from franchise prospects on all aspects of franchise documents
  • Possess enough financial acumen or confidence in ability to obtain acumen to contribute to growth of financial resources and relationships for store growth
  • Comprehensive overall knowledge of and ability to share Tommy’s history, systems, processes and culture with franchise prospects
  • Lead team in presenting proposed franchise candidates to approval committee
  • Manage onboarding of approved & finalized franchise partners upon full execution of franchise agreements through Orientation/On-Boarding
  • Incorporate the values and mission of Tommy’s Express throughout recruiting process and carry out the company’s family-founded culture, passion, and integrity
  • Share & embody the brand mission & values throughout the recruiting process prioritizing the franchise prospect buy-in

Position Qualifications & Candidate Attributes:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field preferred
  • 7+ years of experience in business development with evidence of a strong track record in fast-growth brands, preferably within a franchise environment
  • Up to date knowledge and understanding of franchise and licensing regulations, laws and procedures and FDD requirements
  • Strong communication skills with an emphasis on prioritizing client communications and follow-up
  • Excellent organization skills to manage multiple projects and timelines with a sense of urgency and follow through
  • Ability to form strong working relationships with team members and clients
  • Excellent verbal, written and PC skills, including experience with creating written proposals and the ability to prepare and deliver PowerPoint and Excel proposals, spreadsheets, etc.
  • Strong closing skills, as demonstrated by examples in current or previous roles
  • High energy, self-motivated, and a drive for working efficiency
  • Willingness to travel

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

This job operates in a professional office environment. Office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00am - 5:00pm with communication outside of normal business hours as needed. This role travels as needed for prospective client meetings and tradeshows/events.

To successfully perform the essential functions of this job, team member must be able to:

  • Ability to work and commute in all weather conditions
  • Able to move about inside the office to access standard office equipment, etc.
  • Remain in a stationary position 50% of the time, alternating between sitting and standing
  • Constantly operate a computer and other office productivity machinery such as; keyboard, copy machine and printer
  • Ability to move and lift up to 30 pounds
  • Able to effectively communicate, listen, detect, converse with, discern, convey, express oneself and exchange information
  • Able to walk, bend, twist, turn, stoop, climb steps, reach with hands, use hands to fingers
