Sr. Embyrologist, Waco

About the role

The Senior Embryologist is responsible for overseeing the daily operation of the Waco IVF laboratory, which includes monitoring quality control standards and procedures, resolving equipment malfunctions, and keeping current with new technologies and procedures.

What you'll do

  • Perform routine ART procedures including oocyte retrieval, in-vitro fertilization, standard insemination and ICSI, embryo culture, embryo cryopreservation, embryo thawing, assisted hatching, embryo biopsy and embryo transfer.
  • Performs IVF and related procedures including oocyte retrievals, embryology, andrology, freezing, and thawing gametes at all stages.
  • Proficient in all aspects of contemporary clinical embryology, to include but not limited to QC, inventory, ordering, embryology, andrology, AH, ICSI, biopsy (laser); vitrification and cryobanking.
  • Responsible for quality assurance, quality control, safety procedures.
  • Proficiency in EMR IVF lab data uploading.
  • Conduct/participate in laboratory proficiency testing programs (i.e., ABB-sponsored testing).
  • Maintain and update policy / procedure manual as needed to pass inspection for lab certification (CAP-SART or Joint Commission).
  • Proficiency of lab skills and policies specific to vitro fertilization (IVF) procedures.
  • Proficient in specimen preparation and transfer ensuring specimen quantity, quality and consistency.
  • Thorough knowledge of data management and documentation methods used in Embryology.
  • Advanced knowledge of quality assurance, quality control and process improvements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences or related degree from an accredited university
  • Ten years’ experience with Assisted Reproductive Technologies.
  • Must be available for weekend/holiday hours. Due to the nature of work, flexibility in schedule is required.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in an IVF laboratory.
  • Advanced organizational skills and acute attention to detail. 
  • Ability to follow strict protocols without deviation.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients and staff. Empathetic and aware of impact on patients, including potential liability resulting from mishandling of specimens.
  • Ability to explain complex concepts in a clear and concise manner.
  • Proven ability to apply knowledge and skills to provide high quality patient care and research.
  • Ability to prioritize personal and team tasks and see projects through from inception to completion.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work collaboratively and support the work of others.
  • Demonstrate regard for the dignity and respect of all employees, medical staff and visitors.
  • Maintain proper attendance and punctuality to ensure that the practice operates in an efficient and cost-effective manager.
