POSITION TITLE: Manager, Health, Safety and Environmental

REPORTING TO: Site Manager

LOCATION: St. Albans, VT

The Health, Safety and Environmental Manager is responsible for implementation of a comprehensive safety and health program for Barry Callebaut USA LLC in the St. Albans facility.

Key responsibilities include:

● Observe all safety, sanitation, GMP and HACCP requirements.

● Maintain compliance and reporting requirements for federal and state regulations as well as all

related national and international directives, including but not limited to federal and state

Occupational Safety and Health Administrations (OSHA/VOSHA), Environmental Protection

Agency (EPA), Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation (VTDEC), and Vermont

Department of Health (VTDOH), as well as local municipalities.

● Design, implement and oversee injury prevention models including post-offer pre-employment

screening, fit-for-duty screenings, ergonomic assessments and resulting job coaching/design

recommendations, work rotation programs, stretching program and discomfort reporting program.

● Review treatment plans, claims service (including quarterly and annual reviews with GBA) and

transitional return to pre-injury work through recovery period.

● Oversee facility environmental, health, and safety auditing, as well as assessments, hazard

recognition, and risk remediation to support a workplace that is free from recognized hazards and

has minimal environmental impact.

● Implement, design, and review regulatory required safety and health programs inclusive of training materials used to meet train-the-trainer and employee education requirements.

● Design, implement, and oversee all communications models including safety committee, safety

alerts, safety breaks, posting and board displays that support safety and health awareness of the

prevention of injuries for all employees.

● Develop trend analysis and provide recommendations to the Management Team for corrections or improvements for workplace safety.

● Review property risk assessments, in cooperation with insurers and consultants, to prioritize

management strategies and implement mitigation strategies to avoid property loss.

● Monitor OSHA, EPA, VTDEC, VTDOH, European Union, and other agencies as necessary to keep

up to date on safety and environmental laws

● Lead / train health, safety, and environmental incident response.

Non-Essential Job Function:

● Participate in activities of related professional organizations to update knowledge of safety program development.

● Make recommendations for projects and work with outside consultants as needed.

● Coordinate activities between the Safety Committee and the First Response Team.

About you:

● High school diploma, or equivalent, required

● Bachelor’s degree in related field

● OSHA training for General Industry plus at least two years experience working in a manufacturing environment, food manufacturing would be ideal.

● Experience with coordination of GMP and HACCP principles with safety

● Detail oriented, proactive, and responsive work, be dependable and organized with good record

keeping and retrieval skills

● Ability to establish and maintain effective professional relationships with employees, supervisors,

and managers

● Working proficiency with Google, Microsoft, Safety Skills, Smaat, SAP, LMS platforms, and other

software, preferred

● First Aid, CPR, and AED Certification, preferred. Willingness to obtain certification, required

● Aptitude in hazard recognition and risk assessments

● Ability to read, interpret, and understand complex safety principles

● Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including interpersonal, public speaking and

conducting presentations

● Flexible work schedule

● Travel 5-10% of the time

● Ability to walk/stand on concrete floor for long periods of time

● Bend, squat, stretch, reach; frequently

● Ability to climb stairs, often

● Ability to push, pull, reach

● Must be able to lift a minimum of 50lbs., occasionally

● Comfortable working at heights

● Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions and temperatures in the facility

● Noise level can exceed 85 decibels

● Ability to sit for long periods of time

● Long periods of computer usage; finger dexterity and hand movement for use of keyboard and

mouse, repetitive motion
