Job Summary:
The Equipment Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of heavy machinery, including mini excavators, directional drills, skid loaders, and hydrovac excavators, to support various construction and maintenance projects. Key duties include conducting routine equipment inspections, performing maintenance tasks, and collaborating with team members to ensure projects are completed on time and to specifications. The role requires a strong understanding of safety protocols, the ability to read blueprints, and effective communication skills.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Operate heavy equipment such as mini excavators, skid loaders, directional drills, and hydrovac excavators safely and efficiently.
  • Conduct routine inspections and maintenance of equipment to ensure optimal performance and safety compliance.
  • Collaborate with team members to execute tasks according to project specifications and timelines.
  • Follow safety protocols and procedures to minimize accidents and ensure a safe working environment.
  • Maintain accurate records of equipment usage and maintenance activities.
  • Assist in loading and unloading materials and equipment as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and other crew members to coordinate work activities.
Minimum Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be able to be insured under company vehicle insurance policy.
  • 3+ years of experience operating directional drills.
  • CDL Class A driver’s license.
  • Strong knowledge of safety procedures and equipment maintenance.
  • Good communication skills and physical stamina.
Preferred Skills:
  • Experience with directional drilling equipment.
  • Advanced maintenance and troubleshooting skills.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Capable of working in various weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, and rain.
  • Stamina to stand, walk, and operate equipment for extended periods.
  • Willingness to travel to various job sites as needed.
Work Environment:
  • Outdoor:
    • Primarily outdoor work, often in challenging weather conditions.
    • Exposure to construction sites with varying levels of noise, dust, and heavy equipment operation.
    • Frequent interaction with crew members, subcontractors, and other site personnel.
Safety Requirements:
  • Comply with OSHA safety guidelines and wear PPE as needed.
  • Report hazards and follow safe work practices.
