Description:

At Cocoon House we partner with young people, families, and communities in Snohomish County to break the cycle of homelessness through outreach, housing, and prevention. The Family Reconciliation Services (FRS) Social Worker provides services to support youth and families through crisis and achieve reunification. As part of the Family Engagement Team, the FRS Social Worker will be responsible for intakes, assessments, and service planning in partnership with DCYF.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Full-Time: Monday-Friday | On-site in Everett

Salary Range: $62,000 - $70,000 | +$1.50/hr pay differential for multi-lingual skills with additional paperwork

  • Contacting the youth or parent(s) within 24 hours of a referral or request for services to offer support and complete an intake.
  • Provide crisis intervention to de-escalate the youth or family members to better prepare them for engaging in services.
  • Complete family assessments to identify the family's cultural values, strengths, risks, and/or needs for reconciliation.
  • Consult with a multidisciplinary team at the request of the youth or their parents, which is to be locally based and administered, which includes, but is not be limited to, educators, family therapist, licensed healthcare providers, social service providers, housing providers, other family members, religious organizations, juvenile justice staff or law enforcement, or other members of youth or parents community who are a part of their support system in order to support reconciliation efforts, which centers the youth and family.
  • Complete CSEC screenings if a youth is suspected, indicated, or confirmed of being CSEC.
  • Make mandated reports to CPS in accordance with RCW 26.44.030 when there is reason to believe the youth has suffered abuse and neglect.
  • Develop a service plan in partnership with the youth and/or parent(s) that addresses the needs indicated in the family assessment.
  • Refer youth and/or parents with complex behavioral health needs to appropriate behavioral health resources
  • Refer youth and/or parents with SUD challenges to appropriate SUD or treatment resources.
  • Provide opportunities for youth and families to engage in their cultural traditions and practices to build resilience through cultural connections and relationships.
  • Support youth or parents with filing a CHINS or ARY if the youth or family desires, the youth meets criteria, and it is indicated in the assessment that a CHINS or ARY is necessary to achieve reconciliation and/or address the youth's needs for stability which may include but not be limited to assisting youth and/or parents in completing the filing paperwork, communicating to the juvenile court what FRS have been provided, and attending fact finding hearings at the request of the youth, parent(s), or juvenile court.
  • Transfer FRS cases to the department when a CHINS petition needs to be filed on behalf of a youth who meets the criteria specified in RCW 13.32A.140 .
  • Provide leadership on the Prevention team around best practices in working with parents.
  • Support other Cocoon House programs to increase staff knowledge around family engagement and Prevention work as needed.
  • Assist Director of Family Engagement in training Cocoon House staff in best practices in working with families.

  • This position can provide a flexible work schedule with some evening hours and at least one weekend each month.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in the field of social services, human services, behavioral sciences, or related field with three-years of related experience in social services preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in social services, human services, behavioral sciences, or related field with two-years of related experience in social services required. One year of paid social service experience must include assessing risk and safety to youth and providing direct family centered practice services.
  • Relevant experience may substitute year for year for the degree requirement.
  • Previously demonstrated in-depth knowledge of adolescent development, family conflict and strength-based, solution focused approaches to family reconciliation
  • Experience providing ongoing assessment of risk and routine social service functions
  • Previously demonstrated in-depth knowledge of child welfare, juvenile justice and the disproportionate impact of those systems on Black, Indigenous, People of Color, and LGBTQ+ youth and families
  • Previous experience working in and with diverse and historically underserved communities
  • Strong and effective communication skills; proficiency in crisis intervention/de-escalation.
  • Knowledge of street culture, adolescent development, and strengths-based approaches preferred.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Acceptable driver's abstract with no more than 2 violations within last 3 years
  • Possess a valid driver's license, auto insurance, and reliable transportation

  • Ability to read and comprehend a variety of materials
  • Ability to operate phone, computer, and record information for files and logs
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 Ibs
  • Must have ability to run up and down indoor and outdoor stairwells in case of youth emergency.
