POSITION SUMMARY

The Fleet Manager is responsible for managing, planning, directing, organizing, and evaluating the operation of vehicle and equipment maintenance and repair. FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Employment Type: Full Time

PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITY

  • Establishes and maintains a preventive maintenance program for vehicles and motorized equipment.
  • Coordinates repair and maintenance services to obtain maximum utilization of equipment and prevent operational delays.
  • Inputs fleet information into the computerized fleet management system daily.
  • Maintains fleet records on inventory levels, preventive maintenance schedules, and corrective maintenance performed on all units.
  • Responsible for parts organization and inventory.
  • Analyzes fleet operations reports, identifying trends and correcting mistakes.
  • Coordinates activities of personnel conducting research on automotive equipment considered for acquisition.
  • Works with Purchasing Agent for procurement of materials, supplies, and parts required to maintain automotive equipment, garages, and storage facilities.
  • Reviews purchase orders with accounting to ensure accuracy and proper payment of invoices.
  • Communicates with departments about equipment problems and future vehicle and equipment needs.
  • Oversees the receipt, tagging, stocking and dispensing of parts to mechanics according to company and operating procedures.
  • Enforces policies and procedures regarding work safety.
  • Ensures the development of subordinate staff by maintaining competent levels of training.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of the methods and procedures used in servicing and repairing gasoline and diesel engines.
  • Knowledge of vehicle and equipment mechanics, including combustion engines and hydraulic and electrical systems and air brakes.
  • Knowledge of safety standards for motor vehicles and equipment.
  • Knowledge of State vehicle inspection standards.
  • One (1) to two (2) years of experience using automotive tools and equipment.
  • Detail orientated with strong organizational skills.
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite) and above average math skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work successfully with a wide variety of people at different levels within the organization.
  • Ability to keep company proprietary information confidential.

SPECIFIC EDUCATIONAL / VOCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Management experience required.
  • Completion of a technical or trade school program in Automotive Mechanics or 3-5 years fleet maintenance management experience preferred.

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION

• Valid Driver’s License is required.

ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee frequently is required to stand, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The employee is required to walk, stoop, or kneel. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicles, and is regularly exposed to extreme heat or cold, or temperatures consistent with outdoor weather.
