Job Description - General Manager Position Overview: The General Manager (GM) will oversee the day-to-day operations of a retail cannabis dispensary in Deptford, New Jersey, ensuring that the business operates in compliance with state and local regulations. The GM will be responsible for managing staff, inventory, customer service, sales, and operational processes. This individual must possess strong leadership, organizational, and customer service skills, as well as a deep understanding of cannabis laws and industry standards in New Jersey. Key Responsibilities:

Store Operations Management:

  • Ensure the dispensary operates in compliance with New Jersey cannabis laws and regulations, including proper record-keeping and product tracking in METRC.
  • Oversee all operational activities, ensuring the store runs smoothly and efficiently, including opening and closing procedures.
  • Maintain inventory control, overseeing stock levels, product rotation, and performing regular audits to ensure accurate inventory tracking.
  • Manage cash handling, including daily reconciliations, and ensure the safe handling of large amounts of cash and cannabis products.
  • Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for retail operations, security protocols, and customer transactions.
  • Monitor and report on sales goals, operational efficiencies, and other key performance indicators (KPIs).

Staff Management and Training:

  • Recruit, hire, train, and manage dispensary staff, including budtenders, security personnel, and other support roles.
  • Ensure all staff are well-versed in the store’s products, cannabis laws, and customer service best practices.
  • Conduct ongoing training to maintain high levels of staff knowledge and performance.
  • Provide mentorship and performance feedback to employees to foster a positive, productive work environment.
  • Create and manage staff schedules, ensuring sufficient coverage and efficient operation during peak hours.
  • Enforce a high standard of professionalism, safety, and ethical conduct within the team.

Customer Service:

  • Ensure an exceptional customer experience by providing professional, friendly service and accurate product recommendations.
  • Handle customer complaints or issues, ensuring they are addressed quickly and effectively while maintaining a positive reputation for the dispensary.
  • Educate customers about the benefits, uses, and effects of cannabis products while remaining compliant with NJ regulations around cannabis sales and marketing.
  • Promote and maintain a clean, welcoming, and safe store environment for both customers and staff.

Sales and Marketing:

  • Develop and implement sales strategies to drive revenue, including in-store promotions, product launches, and customer loyalty programs.
  • Collaborate with marketing teams to create marketing materials and digital content that resonate with customers and drive foot traffic.
  • Track and analyze sales performance to identify trends, manage product demand, and optimize product offerings.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key suppliers and vendors to ensure product availability and negotiate pricing.

Compliance and Security:

  • Ensure the dispensary adheres to all New Jersey cannabis regulations, including the Cannabis Regulatory Commission (CRC) guidelines.
  • Work with security personnel to monitor surveillance equipment and ensure the safety of the premises, staff, and customers.
  • Maintain the dispensary's security protocols, including visitor logs, cash handling, and emergency response procedures.
  • Ensure proper documentation and reporting for all compliance-related activities, including inventory tracking and product transfers.
  • Stay up-to-date on any regulatory changes and adjust store policies as necessary.

Financial Management:

  • Prepare and manage the dispensary’s budget, focusing on minimizing operational costs while ensuring revenue goals are met.
  • Monitor cash flow, oversee banking processes, and ensure that all financial transactions comply with company policies and state regulations.
  • Analyze financial reports to assess the store's performance and suggest adjustments to improve profitability.

Health & Safety:

  • Ensure the dispensary adheres to all safety standards, including OSHA guidelines, and maintain a clean and safe environment for both customers and employees.
  • Address any safety hazards or concerns promptly and implement corrective actions.
  • Oversee health and safety training for staff and ensure compliance with all relevant regulations.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree in business, retail management, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in retail management, with at least 2 years in the cannabis industry preferred. Experience managing a team in a highly regulated environment is a must.
  • Skills:
  • Strong leadership, decision-making, and team-building abilities.
  • Deep understanding of New Jersey cannabis regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Ability to create and manage budgets, analyze financial data, and implement cost-saving strategies.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to stay organized and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with inventory management software (e.g., METRC, LeafLogix, etc.) and point-of-sale (POS) systems.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and other relevant software tools.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to stand, walk, and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Able to work in a retail environment, including standing for extended periods.
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Compensation:

  • Salary: Competitive, commensurate with experience.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $72,000.00 - $78,000.00 per year
