Job Description
Kia Design Center America located in California is currently looking for a [ Senior CAS Modeler ] that will: - Create innovative and compelling interior and exterior design proposals for concept cars and production car programs
- Independently be able to quickly generate high-quality 3D models primarily using Alias, and (to a lesser degree) SubD or Blender
- Demonstrate the ability to develop automotive interior/exterior models from start to finish
- Work self-sufficiently, while also functioning as a part of a larger team
- Work closely with Management, Engineering, Design, Clay, and Milling/Printing to discuss design criteria; incorporate the criteria to meet engineering and manufacturing requirements
- Produce presentation-ready materials to support design reviews
- Ability to work in a collaborative team atmosphere with an open, positive attitude
- Work closely with fellow CAS Modelers, Designers, Engineers, Design Managers, Fabricators, Clay Modelers, and CMF in a professional, inclusive, harmonious fashion
- Utilize Autodesk ALIAS Surface to create Class-A (Single Span) 3D models from Designer drawings/models/verbal input, Engineering requirements, polygonal models, and clay scans
- Create interior/exterior vehicle models for visual/VR reviews and physical models for presentations
- Create interior/exterior vehicle models for fabrication with rapid prototyping (3D printing) and CNC milling
- Build models of interior/exterior components (steering wheels, lamps, mirrors, wheels, grilles, etc) based on Designer sketches and/or rough models, scan data, engineering criteria, and verbal direction
- Meet design specifications from Engineering and deadlines established by Design Managers
- Create CAS models assuring accuracy, Design intent, and Engineering or fabrication requirements
- Organize and prepare files for Design reviews, Visualization, Engineering, and vendor release
Basic Qualifications - High School diploma or higher
- Technical or Vocational training in CAS
- Minimum 5+ years of professional design experience at an Automotive Design studio
- Strong strong digital modeling skills (primarily Alias; SubD or Blender a plus)
- Valid Driver's License and satisfactory driving record
