Pediatric Trauma Program Coordinator

8:00 am - 4:00 pm, varied

Works collaboratively with the Pediatric Trauma Medical Director to oversee services and systems necessary for the multidisciplinary approach to the care of all trauma patients from scene to discharge with the primary focus on pediatrics.

This individual functions as the leader in maintaining and continuously enhancing applications and repositories for the Trauma Program. This includes the Trauma One application for the NYSDOH, National Trauma Database, and American College of Surgery Trauma Quality Improvement Program registries.

This individual will take responsibility for ensuring the continued smooth functioning on these applications and databases, reporting, and all data submissions as requested by departmental and hospital leadership.

Responsibilities, Duties, and Standards:

• Works collaboratively with the Trauma Program Manager / Pediatric Trauma Medical Director and works in concert with the Trauma Center Medical Director to oversee services and systems necessary for the multidisciplinary approach to the care of all trauma patients from scene to discharge with the primary focus on pediatrics.
• Coordinates management across the continuum of trauma care which includes planning and implementation of clinical protocols and practice management guidelines, monitoring of in-hospital patients and serving as a resource for clinical practice.
• Ensures that the pediatric trauma program maintains compliance with required criteria for verification by the American College of Surgeons and designation by the New York State Department of Health as a Level II Pediatric Trauma Center.
• Develops collaborative relationships with staff in all departments to facilitate cooperation and support for the trauma program.
• Provides for intra-facility and regional professional staff development.
• Participates in case review, practice guidelines development and community trauma education and prevention programs.
• Performance Improvement: Maintains an effective multidisciplinary pediatric trauma performance improvement program (PIP) through concurrent data collection and systems review. Utilizes available computer software for PI.
• Coordinates Pediatric Trauma PI Committee meetings. Reviews and audits all trauma deaths and significant complications with the Pediatric Trauma Medical Director. Identifies PI metrics for pediatric trauma care and develop programs to improve care. Report PI to appropriate hospital PI Committees. Develops quality filters, audits and case reviews and identifies trends and sentinel events
• Ensures Good Samaritan Hospital presence in the community by collaborating with the Outreach/Injury Prevention coordinator, pre- hospital professionals, local and regional hospital leaders and injury prevention groups to provide education and outreach activities.
• Participates in Regional Trauma Advisory Committee (RTAC)
• Trauma Registry: Ensures accuracy of the pediatric trauma registry database. Performs case identification, injury scoring and development of processes for data validation as necessary.
• Research: Participates in pediatric trauma related research projects. Facilitate protocol development for accurate data collection, feedback and analysis
• Community and National involvement: Represents the trauma program on various hospital and community committees to enhance and foster optimal trauma care management. Participates in community outreach and creates educational opportunities for the community

Education:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or health related field.
• Current NYS license to practice as a Registered Nurse.
• Five years of clinical nursing experience.
• A minimum of 2 years recent hospital nursing experience in Pediatric Emergency, Pediatric Critical Care or previous Trauma Coordinator experience.
• Strong tactful communication skills to interact with staff, physicians, patients, families and the public across all service lines.
• Demonstrated emotional stability and ability to function appropriately and effectively in critical, unexpected, or stressful clinical situations.
• Ability to multi-task. Ability to work independently

Preferred Qualifications:

• PALS certification
• TNCC or ATCN Provider/Instructor (or complete within one year of employment)
• Active participation in professional nursing organization.

Salary Range

USD $106,996.50 - USD $127,920.00 /Yr.

This range serves as a good faith estimate and actual pay will encompass a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience. The salary range or rate listed does not include any bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation that may be applicable to this job and it does not include the value of benefits.
