Job Description

Company Overview

More energy for you. Arbor is an app that makes saving on energy easy while untangling the complex web of energy choices for consumers. With our recent $20M funding round, our mission has never been clearer: to simplify energy decisions, helping consumers save money, and ultimately reduce carbon emissions.

Role Summary

Arbor is on a mission to build the first consumer-grade energy experience. In short, we want to put everyday homeowners and renters in control of their energy use in order to lower costs and transition to a cleaner, more sustainable future.

We’re looking for ambitious product designers who are excited to break down traditional industry paradigms and put a new, innovative twist on energy that makes it more intuitive, engaging, and inspiring.

In this role, you will research, concept, design, and prototype zero-to-one experiences for web and mobile, while working with a world-class engineering team to implement your designs. You’ll work closely with your design and engineering teammates to grow our design system to ensure a scalable product foundation.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you’ll wear many hats as one of our earliest Product Designers. Your responsibilities will include researching, designing, and prototyping, in addition to contributing deeply to our product vision and roadmap.

  • Develop a deep understanding of Arbor’s business ecosystem, the energy supplier market, and consumer energy experiences

  • Use visuals and prototypes to help set an inspiring vision for Arbor’s products

  • Identify key user and company needs and contribute to a strategic product roadmap

  • Own end-to-end feature design across our web and mobile products

  • Work closely with your product, engineering, and data teammates to build, QA, and ship your designs to customers

  • Contribute to and scale the Arbor design system

  • Help us grow the Arbor design team and culture

What We Look For

  • You’re excited to design first-class experiences that demonstrate exceptional care down to the last detail. You can describe the rationale behind your visual and interactive design decisions.

  • You take great steps to learn about the people you’re designing for, their needs, and how your solutions can best serve them.

  • You have a deep understanding of how your designs will impact your company’s goals, and can articulate how you prioritize work

  • Comfort with complexity - You’re comfortable thinking through complex designs, and your solutions demonstrate thoughtful and scalable systems thinking.

  • You can clearly communicate your ideas to a variety of stakeholders using visuals and prototypes

Location & Work Environment:

While this position is fully remote, candidates should be located within a reasonable distance of one of our hub locations in Boston or Austin. At Arbor, we deeply value the relationships and camaraderie among our team. Therefore, we periodically gather at these hubs for special occasions such as team events or when welcoming new members.

Why Arbor?

  • 🌍 Purposeful Work: Make a tangible difference in how consumers engage with the energy landscape.

  • 💡 Career Acceleration: Fast-track your career in a company where innovation sparks real change, and there’s tons of autonomy and problem-solving.

  • 🌟 Dynamic Team Culture: Join a community of driven professionals passionate about our shared vision for a cleaner, smarter energy future.

  • Arbor is the ideal launchpad for those hungry to advance their skills and make an impact on the world. Immerse yourself in a challenging and rewarding environment where your work simplifies energy decisions and contributes to a sustainable future.

If you're driven by meaningful work, and consumer-facing products, and are eager to shape the future of energy, Arbor is the place for you. Dive into the challenge and help us simplify energy for all, building the world’s most loved energy experience.
