Sports Information Director Hiring Department The University of Texas Permian Basin's Athletics Department welcomes applications for the position of Sports Information Director
Salary Range $45,000.00 depending on qualifications
Essential Functions The sports information director provides planning and implementing communications strategies as they relate to the goals and objectives of the University of Texas Permian Basin's 16 athletic programs. The sports information director serves as the primary contact for assigned sports and is responsible for the assigned sports' publicity, information, and historical archives while also serving as the secondary contact for all other sports. Know, understand, and comply with policies of the NCAA, Lone Star Conference, and the University of Texas Permian Basin.
1. Develop ideas; collect information; produce news articles and feature stories for both print and electronic news media; arrange for campus interviews, news conferences, or photographs; edit university publications; maintain working relationships with faculty, administrators, students, media and public.
2. Attend the weekly University Advertising Committee, Athletics Department, and Athletic Staff meetings each week or as scheduled. Record statistics on the Athletics web site and distribution weekly statistical reports.
3. Assist coaches with completion of All-Conference nomination forms. Completion of NCAA Year End reports for each sport. Creation pregame press releases before special contests, coordinate with athletic director, and create press releases for special interest/special awards/events/accomplishments.
4. Create weekly story on players for submission to their home paper and distribute information on camps and other activities related to athletics to the media. Make regular contact with the Athletic Director and in-season coaches; coverage of all home athletic contests; take statistics for all sports post event interviews for releases and creation of post-game press release for distribution to all media outlets.
5.Maintain department archival records and statistical files.
Required Qualifications 1. Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution.
2. Two years of experience in media relations, athletics communications, or sports information.
3. Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook); Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Premiere Pro; Genius and Stat Crew software; Social media platforms (including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram).
4. Desktop publishing and design/layout skills.
Preferred Qualifications 1. Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or Sports Management.
2. Knowledge of Sidearm Sports website client.

Schedule Generally, the normal work hours for the university are Monday through Thursday, 7:30 - 5:30 pm; Friday, 8:00 am - 12:00 pm with a one-hour lunch. The individual holding this position may need to be available early morning, evening, and on weekends to meet the needs of the department. Hours worked may differ with some departments.
Standard Working Conditions 1. Able to lift various materials up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis.
2. Able to bend, crouch, and reach continuously.
3. Physically able remain seated, frequently to continuously.
4. Able to remain standing up to 15% of the time.
5. Possesses dexterity abilities required to perform job duties including extensive keyboard work, operating office equipment, performing filing, and other job-related responsibilities that include extensive wrist and hand movement.
