POSITION SUMMARY

The Teaching and Learning Coordinator will be hired by LAEP and supervised by the Director of Teaching and Learning. In partnership with the school and LAEP, the Teaching and Learning Coordinator will build a sustainable system of student, school and family supports that improves outcomes and creates an environment where students fulfill their potential.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

Develop the school's vision:

  • Work as part of the LAEP Teaching & Learning Team, focused on the successful development and implementation of the instructional priorities of the school site(s).
  • Support school staff in creating organizational rituals that encourage a resilient and hopeful environment, while developing relationships amongst staff and with staff
  • Assist in the development of the organizational goals and objectives consistent with the vision, mission, and values of the school.
  • Work collaboratively with the Instructional Leadership Team (ILT) and coach teachers in developing/supporting the strategic plan to align the vision, mission, and instructional priorities of the school.
  • Support a culture of excellence, teamwork and collaboration among the staff, teachers, students, and families.
  • Partner with LAEP's Community School Coordinators to enhance the connections and use of community resources within the classroom
  • Facilitate communication including, e.g., action plans, sustainability plans, or a monthly electronic newsletter.

Employ data analysis:

  • Facilitate data analysis of student achievement and participate in preparation of goals and implementation of action plans.
  • Assist the school in developing data-informed decision making professional learning to support the establishment of a data driven culture and PLCs.
  • Collaborate with teachers to implement a continuous cycle of professional growth that is responsive to student needs.
  • Create space to collect and use student voice to contribute to policies and practices

Facilitate professional development:

  • Work with existing instructional support, coordinators, coaches and staff to strengthen instruction in all core content areas
  • As needed, plan and facilitate weekly common planning periods with lead teachers, department chair persons, and school instructional teams.
  • Employ Cognitive Coaching model and Adaptive Schools strategies to support teachers focusing on instructional strategies and classroom practices aligned to research and standards-based practices.
  • Conduct demonstration lessons, facilitate peer observations, and provide feedback and ongoing support to ensure effective implementation of Common Core Standards
  • Co-plan and co-facilitate ongoing work sessions with departments
  • Design & facilitate dynamic, sequential professional development that supports a consistent implementation throughout the school year to all school staff.
  • Employ knowledge of adult learning theories and principles when coaching school-based professionals

Implement Coaching:

  • Providing teacher consultation, classroom coaching and/or leadership coaching
  • Engage school administrators and staff in ongoing consultation and coaching that is reflective, responsive, supportive and contextual and promotes sustainable trauma-informed mindsets, systems, practices and school-community partnerships
  • Provide individualized, classroom-based coaching to support teachers in building supportive relationships with students and implementing and sustaining trauma-informed, instructional practices that promote student success and empowerment.
  • Facilitate ongoing technical assistance for assigned school sites via virtual and written communication
  • Participate in required evaluation activities associated with the project

LAEP Responsibilities:

  • Participate in LAEP project workgroups, feeder pattern networks, coordinator networks, department meetings and all staff development meetings and activities.
  • Participate in LAEP activities that support the culture and successes of LAEP and your school sites.
  • Participate in the collection and input of LAEP & school site partnerships evaluation data used to measure on-going program effectiveness of service providers and progress toward the school's goals.
  • Process documentation as required for administrative procedures, including invoices, timesheets, evaluation materials and tracking logs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES)

Knowledge:

  • A valid California teaching credential
  • 5 years minimum full-time, content teaching experience in secondary schools
  • Preferred single subject Math credential
  • Prefer Cognitive Coaching and/or Adaptive Schools trained
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint)
  • BA required, Master's degree preferred in a related field such as education, literacy, or math
  • Experience with implementation of Trauma Informed Instruction
  • Experience with Social Emotional Learning (SEL)

Skills:

  • Experience with project planning for supports to increase student's academic success through parent engagement, school collaboration, and social emotional health
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills; strong written and interpersonal skills
  • Experience developing and facilitating professional development trainings for faculty (i.e. Cognitive coaching; Design Thinking; Asset based strategies; Critical Friends culture; Adaptive schools strategies; Lesson study; Instructional Rounds; Modeling of CCSS-aligned instructional strategies)
  • Experience facilitating strategic planning and collaboration around instructional priorities and grading practices
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate collaboration among diverse teachers and staff members
  • Demonstrated success in working with students and families of diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to quickly establish and maintain cooperative and effective professional relationships, build trust in a limited time, and engage with a broad range of school-based staff and community partners
  • Ability to demonstrate effective skills in group facilitation, managing teams/groups, organizational dynamics, and consensus building.
  • Cultural awareness and ability to navigate and promote sensitivity with issues of race and equity and knowledge of racial equity and racial justice in the context of public education
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, to a broad range of audiences
  • Comfort using tools and methods to optimize support for a remote staff (distance learning technologies, creative use of video, virtual meeting technologies, etc.)
  • Excellent project management skills, ability to balance multiple priorities with proven ability to anticipate challenges, solve problems and maintain a calm demeanor in high-pressure situations
  • Strong analytical, time management, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge and/or experience with change management as it relates to positive organizational change.
