Job Description

Only accepting applications from residents of Nebraska at this time.

Company Description

Variant is a startup that combines the high-end quality of a 3D creative studio with the efficiency and scale of a technology platform.

Our award winning 3D artists create stunningly realistic, high-fidelity 3D models of commercial products and every available option. The models are loaded into our web-based platform, Variant | Builder. The platform gives companies on-demand access to generate unlimited photorealistic visuals for any product configuration, from any angle, which can be seamlessly deployed across all channels.

While beneficial for any product, our solution is purpose-built for the intricacies of highly configurable goods. We specialize in products with an extensive range of customizable options, such as varying colors, interchangeable parts, and complex accessories. This focus makes Variant the ideal visualization partner for leaders in: Powersports & Automotive, Industrial Equipment & Machinery, Medical Devices, Consumer Goods, Toys, Electronics, Marketing & Advertising Agencies.

The Role

We’re looking for a 3D Designer with Unreal Engine experience or an experienced 3D Artist eager to learn Unreal Engine, to help bring complex commercial products to life.

You’ll work closely with our creative and dev teams to turn CAD files into highly configurable 3D products. That means dialing in materials, lighting, and detail with precision. You should be confident working in Unreal (or a similar platform), understand how to optimize for performance, and have a sharp eye for how physical products should look and feel on screen.

Location: Fully Remote/Work from Home, but must be a Nebraska resident

Employment Type : Full-time, but open to part-time or contract/freelance work

Reports To: Founder, Lead Artist

Responsibilities

  • Transform CAD or create new models as optimized 3D assets
  • Set up lighting, materials, textures to create high quality environments and product renders
  • Work within Variant’s tools to build configurable products into our platform
  • Collaborate across creative and tech to build modular, reusable asset systems

You Might Be a Fit If You...

  • Have 3–5+ years in Unreal Engine or other 3D software (preferably Cinema4D)
  • Strong 3D Generalist skills such as modeling, texturing, animation, etc
  • Have a strong portfolio showcasing photorealistic renders
  • A good eye for lighting and material workflows
  • Work independently and hit deadlines without much oversight
  • Move comfortably between hands-on design and team collaboration
  • Love learning, exploring and implementing new tools and ways to do things
  • Bonus: experience with C++, UE’s Blueprints, motion graphics, video work

What We Offer

  • A creative team that values artistry, speed, and clean execution
  • Room to shape workflows and make a real impact on how things get built
  • Projects that push you to blend craft with scale
  • An experienced and supportive leadership team, and plenty of training
  • Work on products across industries such as automotive, powersports, electronics, heavy equipment, toys
  • A flexible schedule and fully remote work environment

Benefits: As a growing startup, our benefits package is still developing and we don't yet offer traditional group plans (like a 401k or health insurance). We are deeply committed to our team's health and well-being and work individually with each full-time employee to build a competitive package that supports their personal wellness needs.

Note on location: We're a fully remote team based in Lincoln, Nebraska. While we're excited to expand our hiring nationwide and globally in the future, a recent grant from the Nebraska Department of Economic Development means we're focused on applicants who are based in Nebraska.

If you have questions: We're real humans reviewing and replying to all questions and applications. Please feel free to reach out to: jobs@variantbuilder.com
