Job Description

Large food manufacturer in the Kirkland-Redmond, WA area is seeking a highly experienced and dedicated Warehouse Manager with a proven track record in food handling and cold storage environments. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of our cold storage warehouse operations, ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant storage and distribution of temperature-sensitive food products. This role requires strong leadership, exceptional organizational skills, and a deep understanding of cold chain logistics and food safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operations Management:
  • Oversee and manage all daily warehouse activities, including receiving, put-away, storage, picking, packing, and shipping of food products within temperature-controlled environments (refrigerated and frozen).
  • Optimize warehouse layout and space utilization to maximize efficiency and capacity in cold storage.
  • Develop, implement, and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all warehouse processes, with a strong emphasis on cold chain integrity and food safety.
  • Monitor and maintain optimal temperature and humidity levels in all cold storage areas, promptly addressing any deviations or equipment malfunctions.
  • Implement and manage preventative maintenance programs for all warehouse equipment, including forklifts, refrigeration units, and material handling equipment, suitable for cold environments.
  • Coordinate with transportation and logistics partners to ensure timely and efficient inbound and outbound shipments.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve operational issues, discrepancies, and challenges efficiently.
  • Inventory Management:
  • Maintain accurate inventory records and ensure proper product rotation (FIFO/FEFO) to minimize waste and spoilage of perishable goods.
  • Implement and manage robust inventory control systems (WMS experience preferred) for real-time visibility and accurate tracking.
  • Conduct regular cycle counts and physical inventories, investigating and reconciling any discrepancies.
  • Manage product quality control, ensuring all incoming and outgoing products meet specified standards.
  • Team Leadership & Development:
  • Lead, mentor, train, and develop a team of warehouse supervisors and associates, fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, provide constructive feedback, and address any performance issues.
  • Develop and implement staffing plans, manage schedules, and optimize labor allocation to meet operational demands in a cold environment.
  • Promote a positive and collaborative work environment.
  • Safety & Compliance:
  • Ensure strict adherence to all food safety regulations (e.g., HACCP, FSMA), health and safety standards (OSHA), and company policies.
  • Implement and maintain a comprehensive food safety program within the warehouse.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and training sessions to ensure a safe working environment, particularly in cold conditions.
  • Manage pest control programs specific to food storage facilities.
  • Ensure all team members are properly trained on equipment safety and cold storage protocols, including appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Continuous Improvement:
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement lean methodologies to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Utilize data and key performance indicators (KPIs) to analyze performance, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions.
  • Stay informed of industry best practices and emerging technologies in food and cold storage warehousing.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field (preferred).
  • Proven experience managing perishable goods and maintaining cold chain integrity.
  • Strong knowledge of food safety regulations (HACCP, FSMA, etc.) and OSHA compliance.
  • Proficiency in Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and inventory control software.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, demanding environment, including prolonged periods in cold temperatures (appropriate gear provided).
  • Forklift certification and experience operating various material handling equipment.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull objects as required by the job.
