WATER TREATMENT PLANT OPERATOR II
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
The person in this position will be required to use electronic laboratory equipment, titration equipment and measuring devices for the analysis of water; hand tools (shovels, picks, brooms, hammers, wrenches, screwdrivers, electric drills, electric grinders, mops, vacuum cleaner) for repair and maintenance of all treatment plant equipment and buildings; power equipment (pickup truck, lawn mowers, weed trimmers, pumps) for the maintenance and repair of treatment plant, raw water pumping stations, and grounds.
Will be required to perform water quality analysis throughout the process of producing potable water, monitor all treatment processes and pumping rate as determined by water quality and consumer demand. Must recognize the need for changes in pumping rate and chemical dosages and be capable of making such changes upon the authorization of a certified operator. Will be required to perform routine maintenance and repairs on all treatment plant equipment, buildings and grounds; repair and test water meters; maintain records of all treatment plant functions and maintenance performed; maintain inventories of supplies and spare parts; verbally correspond with the public, in a knowledgeable and courteous manor, concerning enquiries about water quality and service.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Must posses a valid Pennsylvania Drivers License. Must have a minimum of a High School Education with college courses desirable. Must have experience and/or education pertaining to the field of water treatment. Must possess good math skills good verbal and written communication skills. Must possess a Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, Class B Type 1, Waterworks Operators Certification or a Department of Environmental Protection Wastewater Certification with the intentions or testing date secured. Must maintain certification, in good standing, during course of employment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical activities required in this position are: Climbing, Balancing, Stooping, Kneeling, Crouching, Crawling, Reaching, Standing, Walking, Pushing, Pulling Lifting (Maximum weight required to lift is app. 100 lbs. 20 times per day; average weight required to lift app. 50 lbs. 40 times per day), Twisting, Fingering, Grasping, Feeling, Talking, Hearing, Writing. The person in this position will be sitting app. 10% of the time. Visual requirements for this position is compatible with that of Inspection, Close Assembly, Clerical, Administrative and must have the ability to differentiate colors.
PHYSICAL SURROUNDINGS
This position requires activities to be performed in the following surroundings: Inside and
Outside, Extreme Cold and Heat, Noise, Vibration, Hazards (moving mechanical parts, electrical current, confined space, chemicals, fumes, dusts, mists, oils). Requires wearing safety equipment such as Hard Hat, Respirator, Safety Goggles and Protective Clothing.
