Applications Food Technologist, Seasonings and Flavors

The Food Source International, Inc. is currently seeking a full-time Applications Food Technologist to join our creative seasoning and flavor research & development team. This position will report directly to our Vice President of Research & Development. The individual will work closely with company team members to support growth in business development through application development expertise and building a showcase of The Food Source International’s seasonings and flavors in various food products.

The ideal candidate must be a self-driven, independent team player with initiative and creativity.

Responsibilities:

Prepare various food product categories such as seasoned snacks, proteins, baked goods, soups, sauces, meat analogues, breading systems and dry beverage mixes

Lead evaluations of seasonings and flavors in food applications to establish gold standard library

Support selection of seasonings, flavors and functional ingredients for projects according to specified requirements (customer, regulatory, legislation, cost)

Work with Sales and Marketing to develop product demonstrations and ideation sessions

Assist Sales with preparing technical reports and Power Point presentations

Work with Genesis formulation software to choose existing formulas best fit for application

Add various attribute notes to formulas in Genesis formulation software

• Operate with independence on daily assignments, refer questions and decisions to others, as needed
• Follow Good Manufacturing Practices when working in lab and production settings

Perform other duties/responsibilities as assigned by supervisor or management

Qualifications:

• Deep understanding of culinary techniques, food science principles and sensory testing.
• Deep understanding of spices, seasonings, flavors and functional ingredients.
• Expertise on how different ingredients interact and affect the sensory attributes and shelf life of various applications.
• Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced fluid environment with tight deadlines.
• Verbal, writing and formal presentation skills.
• Excellent tasting skills and articulation.
• Excellent recall and memory of raw material profiles, functionality and regulatory compliance.
• High proficiency in various software programs such as Genesis and Salesforce.
• Self-starter with the ability to solve problems with innovative solutions .
• Fast and accurate computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
• Strong analytical and communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple demands on time.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science or other scientific or culinary discipline.
• 5+ years’ experience in a similar role/ lab setting preferred.
