Job Title: Coding Supervisor (Contract)

Location: Seattle, WA (Travel as Needed, ~ 1x per quarter)

Contract Duration: 800 hours (Approx. 5 months full-time)

Start Date: ASAP

Position Overview:

A leading multi-specialty medical group in Seattle, WA is seeking an experienced Temporary Coding Supervisor to support a key initiative to reduce DNFB (Discharged Not Final Billed) volume. This role is a contract engagement through a consulting firm and will involve direct oversight and process improvement for the professional fee coding team.

The organization has recently overengineered aspects of its coding workflow, causing bottlenecks and slow turnaround times. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership experience in professional fee coding environments and a track record of effectively streamlining operations to improve coding throughput.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and supervise a professional fee coding team to drive down DNFB volume.
  • Identify inefficiencies in current coding workflows and implement streamlined processes.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders (HIM, billing, compliance, clinical departments) to align coding practices with organizational goals.
  • Ensure timely and accurate coding and charge capture for multiple specialties.
  • Monitor team productivity, quality, and adherence to compliance standards.
  • Provide hands-on guidance and support in resolving complex coding issues.
  • Deliver reports and updates on progress toward DNFB reduction goals.

Qualifications:

  • Required Certification: Valid AHIMA or AAPC coding certification (e.g., CPC, CCS, CPMA, etc.)
  • Experience:
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in professional fee (pro fee) coding.
  • At least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role over a pro fee coding team.
  • Strong familiarity and success working with DNFB metrics and reduction strategies.
  • Deep understanding of coding workflows and best practices across multi-specialty settings.
  • Proven ability to drive performance and quality in fast-paced environments.
